Setting up a new commercial bank – Afghanistan International Bank
ING (currently Financial Access) was mandated by the sponsors of the newly-established Afghanistan International Bank, to provide interim management and operational advise on all preparatory activities needed for the establishment of a commercial bank in Afghanistan.
Our advisers developed a business plan for the proposed bank and applied for the formal banking license with Da Afghanistan Bank (Central Bank). We developed and proposed an action plan for starting the bank’s operations. This action plan formed a basis for a detailed multi-year Work Plan , whereby ING provided management services and technical assistance (including an interim CEO and COO) to the newly established bank over a period of nearly 5 years.
AIB went on to become one of the leading banking organisations in Afghanistan, with an enviable reputation for sound business development and responsible service provision to the domestic and internationally-active segments of the market in retail and business banking.
