In the financial sector, there are requests for assistance in the restructuring of state-owned financial institutions, often as a precursor to privatisation or the introduction of (foreign) strategic investors. FA performs assignments in this area, and a great deal of work remains to be done in markets ranging from low-income developing countries to middle-income transition economies. Quick diagnostic and benchmarking scans of entire sets of institutions have featured in our work in several countries (e.g. Russia, Ukraine – see Track Record).

To extend the reach of the formal economy into the countryside, improving access to financial services is an important development objective in many countries. Donor agencies such as the World Bank have emphasised for some time that access to basic financial services must be broadened as a core element of development policies, and the impact of this, from the microfinance level through small- and medium-sized enterprises and the under-banked population generally, provides a core area of focus for FA. Know-how concerning the use of national distribution networks such as Postal providers (“Postbanks” and the like) is a particular strength of FA.

Financial Access is the leading provider of assistance worldwide in “Postbanks” and postal financial services development.

Examples of our work include:

  • Increasing financial intermediation and the public’s access to retail banking services by assisting governments to incorporate, privatise and modernise their postal financial institutions or associated (postal) savings banks

  • Implementing state-of-the-art postal reform approaches that allow the local post operator to improve competitiveness and efficiency in an increasingly liberalised postal sector; and repositioning the post office network as sales outlet for financial, retail and other services to improve operating efficiency

  • Providing investors attractive risk-adjusted returns through privatisations, acquisitions or corporate restructurings of postal (savings) banks and related financial services (fund management)

  • Building shareholder value in postal banking opportunities through deploying proprietary and hands-on managerial resources to successfully operate the targeted postbanks (consulting and management)

In order to emphasise our commitment to this sector of activity our activities in PFS are carried out under the name of  POST FINANCE INTERNATIONAL
